Forensic Matters:
Complex Divorce Estate Cases: Investigated estates with up to 50 investment holdings—including real estate, whole life policies, private equity investments, and all-cash businesses. Findings included concealed income, undervalued pensions, and millions in undisclosed estate proceeds or cash and asset transfers in violation of court orders. Provided equity valuations and forensic support for disputed business and investment assets.
Real Estate Cases: In divorces involving closely held commercial and multi-family properties, uncovered falsified trust distributions, improper diversions of cash from children’s trusts, unreported real estate income, and hidden bank and credit card accounts.
Medical/Private Equity Interests: In a reopened divorce, uncovered concealed MSO equity interests held by a medical professional. Discovered the medical professional’s federal testimony in another matter where he admitted to millions in marital sale proceeds and ongoing profit participation in a private equity-backed venture which was concealed at time of dissolution.
Estate Litigations: In a sibling dispute, traced improper pre-death transfers and uncovered a forged Co-op share certificate related to a family-owned property. In another matter involving a purportedly equal three-way division of a substantial estate—with no final accounting filed—identified improperly allocated distributions and the failure of one heir to distribute large estate tax refunds to other heirs.
Hedge Fund Concealment: In a reopened divorce, provided significant bank, tax return and third-party evidence that the opposing party, a hedge fund manager, failed to disclose at least $7 million in domestic and offshore fund assets at the time of dissolution, supporting an increased settlement.
Hedge Fund Bankruptcy: Led investor recovery efforts for a select group of disenfranchised investors in a $900 million U.S. and offshore hedge fund fraud collapse. Uncovered massive asset overvaluation, guided litigation strategy, and helped secure a $25 million settlement for our group —nearly 7x the initial offer and a higher return then most investors.
Hedge Fund Fraud: One representative hedge fund matter involved proving that preferential arrangements that improperly benefited existing investors had been concealed from newer investors. Analyses and advisory work were significant and played a critical role in the criminal proceedings and resulted in guilty pleas and prison terms for two principals and the CFO.
Fraud and Bankruptcy Litigations: Advised on several fraud and bankruptcy cases, supporting counsel with drafting complaints, motions, replies, and trial preparation. Federal districts and state court systems included Connecticut, Delaware, New York, Minnesota, and Texas.
